What to eat in Chiang Mai

Good food is important in every travel journey because it radiates good energy for us to carry on and keep our hearts warm. Here are the lists of food that we have tried in Chiang Mai and I can assure you they are all good recommendations! There just just so many food varieties and flavours to choose from when you are in Thailand but the thumb rule is always: Try it!

Rustic and Blue Farm

Rustic and blue farm is everyone's favourite when it comes to friends an family gatherings. With its highlights of serving farm-to-table concept, this cafe has definitely stood out and gained everyone's attention.

Come here if you want some excellent food and service.

Most of the ingredients are produced from their own Rustic and blue's farm, hence their food is always fresh and changing seasonally. They even make their own breads, cookies, and fruit jams!

* Left: Duck Confit and egg, Right: Beef burger

Head to their farm in winter for their farm dinners. Heard it is really amazing and it is something I would really want to try out when I am back to Chiang Mai in the future. Besides providing as a dining place, the farm is also a popular wedding venue in Chiang Mai.

Sunday night bazaar

Sunday Night Bazzar is the opening gate to Thailand street food heaven! Over here, you can find literally almost all Thai dishes and snacks here. Make sure you come with an empty stomach because you will literally want to try every single food stall here. We came with an empty stomach and we went insane for all the stalls selling meat. We went from sausages, grilled chicken then to meat on sticks and meatballs. Our taste buds felt so pampered as there are so many types of meat/seafood and flavours to choose from!

Taste similar like normal chicken eggs, but in bite-sized.

Daddy's antique

If you read on my Chiang Mai blogpost, you'd probably remember that I have mentioned this restaurant, which is owned by the San Pareni, the boutique hotel that we stayed in. It is located right at the entrance of the hotel and if you happen to be their hotel guests, you will be given a 10% discount voucher when you dine in. You can come here either in the daytime because the entire place is just way to insta-worthy or at night when all lights are litted up.

Try their ice latte, better than Starbucks haha
One of their recommended dishes, Sticky BBQ Spare Ribs.

As for the food, I would say above average. The pork ribs and oven-baked rotolo bolognese are pretty decent especially the rotolo bolognese. The pasta in this dish are rolled into circle and filled with marinari sauce and minced meat before baking it in the oven. It is so good!

*Left to right: Complimentary bread with butter, Rotolo bolognese, Lime and mint soda, Pumpkin soup

Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50100, Thailand

SP chicken is a humble shop located in a hidden alley. Despite of that, the shop is always full and you may have to even queue for it. It is very famous with its grilled chicken, even from the outside of the shop, you will see a row of whole chickens being grilled in a rotating grill machine.

The chicken is very succulent and moist even the chicken breast!

Toey Dim Sum

Attention to all dim-sum lovers! Who says you cant have dim sum in Thailand?!

Located at the roadside, Toey dim sum shop has nothing to do with fancy at all. However I can assure you that the dim sum served here will make you want to come back for the second time.

Thumbs up for the Crispy Prawn!

Unlike those usual dim-sum restaurants where the staff will push the food wheelcart around, in Toey, you have to place your orders at the counter and after heating it up, the staffs will serve them to your table.

My favourite dish is their Har Gow (Prawn dumplings). Reasons being the skin is so appropriately thin that it gives the right amount of texture to the entire dumpling. If you are a fans of dim-sum/xiao long baos, you would have known that if the skin is thick it spoils the entire dish.

We also ordered Pork bao (Char Siew bao) and the taste is pretty decent. Not amazingly delicious but not bad at all! Love that the bao is in bite-sized.

Not forget to mention, the price is very afforable, mostly range between 25-50 THB. Cheap thrills!

Ming Mitr Coffee Bar

Mingmitr is an unexpected place we found on our last day while we just randomly craving for hot lattes after drinking convenient coffee from 7-11 for the past few days. The shop is painted in vibrant yellow and the colour caught my attention.

The menu has nothing unusual until I came across the hot coffee named 'Hot Mingmitr' and I ordered it out of curiousity. I mean, nothing could go bad right as it is named after the shop name and guess what! I love it so much! It is like condensed milk in latte thus creating this thick and smooth texture.

They also serve hot Thai Milk Tea which is so interesting and i am gonna come back one day and try it!

Random local food

Of course, last but not least, we also tried a few common local foods which can be found anywhere and everywhere all across Thailand.

Mango Sticky Rice.
Som Tam.
Soup noodles with pig blood.
Thai boat noodle soup.
